Dr. Brian A. McDowell has been practicing podiatry in the Sacramento area since 1975. He and his wife have three children and five grandchildren. Originally from Boise, Idaho, he moved to San Francisco after graduating from the College of Idaho to attend the California College of Podiatric Medicine, where he graduated in the Top 5 of his class and was a member of the Pi Delta honor society. He then fulfilled his internship and residency, specializing in podiatric surgery, following his graduation.
He has been active in his community and his philanthropic interests have included serving as a Boy Scout leader, a volunteer podiatric physician for long distance endurance runs, a podiatric physician for the San Francisco 49ers while they were in summer camp in Rocklin (whereby he was able to acquire donations for various charities), a sponsor for local sports teams, and a caregiver at free clinics.
His numerous professional affiliations include being the past President of the Sacramento Valley Podiatry Society, past Chief of Podiatry at Mercy San Juan Hospital, and current Surgery Executive Committee member at the Greater Sacramento Surgery Center. He is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, California Podiatric Medical Association, and the Sacramento Valley Podiatry Association. He is also a Diplomate in the American Board of Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and a Fellow of the Association of Extremities Nerve Surgeons.
In addition to his past service on the faculty of the California College of Podiatric Medicine, he is currently an associate professor at the new medical school located in Elk Grove, California.
His technical expertise is enhanced by the investment in the latest in innovative equipment and techniques, which are utilized daily in his office, and at the surgery centers, to treat a variety of foot and ankle problems. Dr. Brian McDowell is also sought after as one of a handful of podiatric experts in the latest treatments for pain and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. His additional training in the field has led to his speaking and teaching about the subject from coast to coast. He has written numerous articles on foot and ankle surgery and was the first to develop the laser technique for fungal toenails.
The podiatrists at McDowell Podiatry Group have had years of experience evaluating and treating many different foot and ankle problems. We are capable of providing a number of services to provide relief from heel pain, plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, bunions, ankle pain, foot pain, ingrown toenails, warts, and fungus toenails. Our doctors are also available to perform surgical procedures, if necessary.
In 1930, Ernest Robert Meissner founded his industrial sewing machine business in the Los Angeles area. At the time, California’s garment industry was booming, with more than 900 manufacturers and 28,000 workers. Thanks in part to the movie industry, California fashion has always found plenty of buyers and its garment industry flourished until the lure of cheap foreign labor drew many manufacturers overseas.
Keeping the garment industry humming was the company’s main focus when Ernest’s son William (Bill) came into the business. Bill moved the business to Sacramento in 1958, where the family lived upstairs from its Victorian storefront between 20th and P Streets. The industrial side of the business continued to prosper as Bill and Myrtle Meissner expanded into the home-sewing business, gaining a loyal base of customers throughout the Sacramento area.
When Bill Meissner retired in 1982, Jim took over the family business, moved the company to its current headquarters at Business 80 and El Camino Avenue, and erected the giant needle and thread. Today the company’s needle in the sky serves as a Sacramento landmark and a testament to the Meissner family’s more than 85 years in the sewing business.
In an age when technology so often takes the place of human interaction, we strongly believe that selling only products proven to be leaders in our industry and delivering exceptional one-to-one service ensures you’ll enjoy working with us for many years.
Family-owned and operated since 1930, we are the largest sewing machine company in Northern California, with the best selection of the industry’s top brands. But that’s just the beginning of what sets us apart.
Visit our website and explore the many, many reasons why people choose Meissner.

There is no guarantee that a diversified portfolio will enhance overall returns or outperform a non-diversified portfolio. Diversification does not ensure against market risk.
The financial planning process is like designing a car trip across the country. Unless you have a reliable GPS device in your car, you probably would never drive from California to Rhode Island or from New York to Arizona without some sort of a map to guide you on your way. Like a car trip, your journey to where you want to go with your life would likely go smoother if it involved planning.
The word “retirement” has become a moving target for most Americans. What “retirement” means to one person means something completely different to another.
Protecting yourself, your loved ones, your home or your business against unexpected events is a fundamental aspect of financial planning. Closing the gap on potential risks can be tricky without a comprehensive process that evaluates all potential risk factors.
Whether you are paying tuition costs now or saving for a future goal, it is important to ensure that your strategy for funding an education is compatible with your plan for your retirement and your other financial objectives. Tax considerations must be considered and evaluated also before choosing a specific strategy.
Although we are not practicing law, Placer Summit’s professionals are knowledgeable about various aspects of estate planning and can help you identify where your current plan for your estate may need to be updated so that your goals and your family’s needs are satisfied.

Our founder, Kim Silvers, SPHR-CA, brings business experience from the private and public sectors. She has held progressively responsible positions in Human Resources management in Fortune 500 & 1000 companies including the retail, distribution, software and production industries. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, an MBA in Human Resource Management, and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). No doubt – she’s a certified HR Nerd!
Prior to starting Silvers HR, Kim was the Director of Corporate Human Resources at USCS International, a publicly traded (NASDAQ) software and services company. Working with line management to facilitate the restructuring and growth of an international high tech company with several subsidiaries, she directed the management development, staffing, compensation and employee relations functions. This rapid growth also allowed her to lead the human resources issues in the merger and acquisition process from due diligence to integration in the U.S. and abroad.
During Kim’s tenure at USCS International the Company enjoyed a 54 percent decline in voluntary employee turnover as a result of the Attraction and Retention programs Kim managed. Much of this project included redefining compensation and recruiting strategies and practices. USCS International was listed on Forbes’ list of The 200 Best Small Companies in America in 1997 and later named as Sacramento’s Most Admired Company in 1999.
Kim’s experience also includes employee relations management and policy development in union and non-union facilities. She has served as management’s representative in collective bargaining and grievance resolution.
She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Roseville Chamber of Commerce and Capitol Public Radio. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, the Sacramento Area HR Association, World at Work, the Roseville Chamber of Commerce, the El Dorado Women’s Fund and the Placer Community Foundation Giving Circle. She has taught in the Business Management program at St. Mary’s College Sacramento campus and Human Resources Management at UC Davis Extension. She speaks frequently on HR issues and writes for several business publications.
Kim is the 2006 NAWBO “Wise Woman” award winner for Outstanding Women Leaders in Sacramento Valley.
